Beldocs Academy is a creative documentary film workshop programme destined at young film professionals and film students from European countries with low audiovisual production capacity.
Beldocs Academy will take place in Belgrade for a period of four days between May 7th to 11th during Beldocs Industry programme as part of Beldocs International Documentary Film Festival (7-14 May 2018).
Documentary film projects at different stages of production: from early project development to rough cut versions. During the four days the workshop will take place, the participants will work on their projects with a film professional that will be assigned to them as a tutor and there will be group sessions with other participants. They will also participate in Master Classesgiven by renowned filmmakers attending the festival and will be able to present their projects to documentary film industry professionals attending Beldocs Market.
Andrijana Stojković holds MA in Film and TV directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. Author of 7 short fiction and 8 short documentary films; 2 feature documentaries and 1 feature fiction which she also produced. Her films were screened and awarded at numerous prestigious international film festivals. She established production company All Inclusive Films in 2009. She teaches Documentary Filmmaking at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.
Janko Baljak is a Serbian film and television director. He graduated from Film and Television Directing at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. He is the author of dozens of TV Belgrade’s cultural and art programs. Also, he is one of the founders of the film and TV production of the independent Belgrade radio B92, in which he produced a series of documentary films that were successfully presented in our country and in the world and won multiple awards. He is a full-time professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, teaching a Documentary Film. From 2009-2014 he was the artistic director of the Belgrade Festival of Documentary and Short Film, one of the oldest film festivals in Europe.
Jovana Nikolić is the main producer of multiple-winning docs, realised in co-production with ZDF/Arte and ITVS International, in association with Channel 4, SVT, YLE, RTV SLO, NRK, and with support of IDFA Bertha Fund, Film Transit International etc. EAVE and Berlinale Talents alumna.

Another Family Story / Slovenia-Germany, director: Jakob Krese Weidner
This is the story of a family and of a country which today no longer exist. This film is a son’s attempt to construct a picture from the leftover fragments.
At first, a simple romantic love appears, but there is actually far more behind it. We are sometimes fascinated not only by a one particular person but also by his or her lifestyle, specific character of his or her place of origin and by the values that follow. The romantic attraction to a person may pass but a true love towards a place remains.
SFrj / Serbia, director: Tea Lukač
SFrj is a story of Yugoslav science fiction films. As a genre, science fiction played a major part behind the Iron Curtain. It kicked off with Soviet novels that depicted both utopian and dystopian socialist worlds and peaked with Tarkovsky’s cinematic masterpieces Solyaris and Stalker, and such prolific writers like Strugatskys and Lem. One of the crucial aspects of Yugoslav science fiction films is that they rarely dealt with the future. In a country built on the promise of a better society to come it seems that its cinema somewhat feared the future. Thus Yugoslav films failed to foresee the future that eventually led to the collapse of the society and the film industry itself.
Oblivion is a Hereditary Illness / Bosnia and Herzegovina, director: Sajra Subašić
This is a film about the little town Bosanski Novi, or how it is called today, Novi Grad, with a population of about 28 thousand people located on the northwest of Bosnia-Herzegovina, just on the border to Croatia. Before war it was economically very developed – different industries were existing – wood processing, textile production, ore export. The city was alive and the people had jobs.
What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor / Slovakia, director: Lucia Kasova
Jhonson lives on his boat in Harvey Vale bay on Carriacou island in West Indies. Both his boat and himself are unfit to sail. He’s engine in broken and he is trying to fix it. The hurricane season is in its fullest with all it’s destruction power. Johnson relies on his friends to tow his boat to nearby hurricane hole in the mangroves if the hurricane is coming. He paddles his old, leaking dinghy with all his force to the shore to buy vodka and a bit of food everyday. We see the clumsiness which comes with age, unwillingness to change, despair in loneliness, glitters of his past and thoughts of the end.
Too Close Too Far / Czech Republic, director: Pavel Ruzyak
A documentary film about Ukrainian people in Ukraine and in the Czech Republic fleeing from war events. Film talks about how war affects people and how those people affect us who still live in peace. We watch a refugee camp with an Ukrainian family in Czech Republic, we see the events at the eastern front of Ukraine and we watch a visit of a young girl from Ukraine who enjoys her short time in Prague. The film is about people I have met and how they have changed me along the filming process.
Come, I Have to Show You Something / Croatia, director: Karla Crnčević
This is a story about the witches of Brač, the Amazons, as local people like to call them. About the Earth For Us community which intensively strives to create a new selfsustaining village on the island of Brač. The presentment of their intimate turmoils and reasons that brought them to this path, but also of a specific social phenomenon, still uncommon in this area, which is offering a departure from the classical lifestyle.
